Dr. James Fraser Rini, MD, MPH, is a board-certified behavioral neurologist and Assistant Professor at the Ochsner Neuroscience Institute in New Orleans. He is also the Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Mind the Gulf, an initiative dedicated to advancing neurocognitive care in the Gulf Coast region through precision medicine and innovative digital solutions.Dr. Rini earned dual degrees in Neuroscience, Cell Biology, and Psychology from Rutgers University before completing his MD and MPH at New York Medical College. He trained in neurology at the University of South Alabama, where he served as Chief Resident, and later completed a fellowship in Behavioral Neurology at the UCSF Memory and Aging Center, collaborating with leading researchers in neurodegenerative disease and cognitive neuroscience.Since joining Ochsner in 2021, he has played a key role in developing a comprehensive Brain Health and Neurocognitive Disorders program. His work focuses on improving access to behavioral neurology through remote diagnostics and digital interventions. He has collaborated with institutions such as UCSF Neuroscape, UT Health San Antonio, and LSU to enhance neurodegenerative care in the Gulf South.Dr. Rinis research explores virtual reality and remote cognitive assessments for diagnosing neurodegenerative conditions. His contributions to telemedicine and cognitive neuroscience have been published in leading journals, and he has received recognition from the American Academy of Neurology, including participation in its Emerging Leaders Program.Committed to education and mentorship, Dr. Rini has received the Ochsner Neurology Faculty Teaching Award and continues to develop training initiatives for future neurologists. Through Mind the Gulf, he is working to establish a premier neurocognitive referral center focused on community engagement, research, and patient-centered care.
