Emily Toups, CCC-SLP, CBIS, is a Certified Speech-Language Pathologist and Certified Brain Injury Specialist affiliated with Ochsner Health in New Orleans, Louisiana. She co-presented on "Communication Support and Speech Therapy in Progressive Neurologic Diseases: Planning and Physician Engagement" at the 2024 Ochsner Regional Neurosciences Symposium. In this presentation, she emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and intervention in managing speech, language, voice, cognition, and swallowing challenges associated with progressive neurological diseases. Ms. Toups advocates for comprehensive evaluations to establish baselines, ongoing education and counseling, and the implementation of both rehabilitative and compensatory therapies to enhance patients' quality of life.
