Dr. Peter E. Wais is an Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he is affiliated with the Neuroscape center. His research focuses on the cognitive neuroscience of declarative memory, particularly the brain networks involved in reconstructing long-term memory. Dr. Wais earned his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego, under the mentorship of Dr. John Wixted and Dr. Larry Squire, with a thesis examining the roles of medial temporal lobe structures in recognition memory. He completed postdoctoral studies at UCSF's Graduate Division. His research has been supported by an NIH Pathway to Independence Award. Dr. Wais has published extensively on topics such as memory retrieval, the impact of distraction on episodic memory, and the neural mechanisms underlying high-fidelity memory.
