Penny Roberts, PhD, MT-BC

Dr. Penny Roberts, PhD, MT-BC, is a distinguished music therapist and academic with extensive experience in clinical practice, education, and research. She earned her bachelor's degree in Piano Pedagogy from Loyola University New Orleans in 1996 and subsequently completed a master's degree in Music Therapy at Florida State University. She further advanced her expertise by obtaining a PhD in Aging from Tulane University School of Medicine. With over two decades of experience, Dr. Roberts has served diverse populations, including individuals with dementia, those in hospice and palliative care, oncology patients, and children and adolescents with special needs. Her clinical work extends to addressing mental health concerns such as anxiety and depression, as well as physical conditions like chronic pain.In her academic role, Dr. Roberts is a full-time faculty member in Music Therapy at Loyola University New Orleans, where she teaches both undergraduate and graduate students. She also serves as the National Internship Director and participates as a thesis committee member, contributing to the development of future professionals in the field. Dr. Roberts co-authored the Individualized Music Therapy Assessment Profile (IMTAP), a comprehensive tool designed to assess various domains in clients receiving music therapy. Her scholarly contributions include authoring book chapters and publishing several papers, reflecting her commitment to advancing knowledge in music therapy.Beyond her academic and clinical endeavors, Dr. Roberts actively engages with the New Orleans community. She collaborates with the New Orleans Musicians' Clinic, providing music therapy services to musicians and other community members, thereby enhancing their health and well-being through music
